Hu T. Huang, Ph.D., is a biomedical informatician specializing in applying statistical machine learning to healthcare and life sciences. He received his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, where he focused on machine learning and medical image analysis.
Dr. Huang is among the first to be certified as an AMIA Certified Health Informatics Professional™ (ACHIP™), holds Senior Member status in IEEE (Computer Society and Engineering in Medicine and Biology), and was inducted as a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (FAMIA) in 2024. His interdisciplinary research over the past decade has included diverse biomedical studies, including non-invasive prosthetic limb control, computer-aided histopathology for thyroid cancer diagnosis, gut microbiome research, familial relationship inference from bone marrow donor registries, and computational immunology and genomics for stem cell transplantation in blood cancer treatment.
Before focusing on clinical pharmacology, he applied his expertise in real-world data analysis and AI at health tech companies, including IBM and McKesson (US Oncology Network), utilizing real-world data (EHRs, clinical notes, claims) and AI technologies (ML/DL, NLP) to generate actionable clinical insights and real-world evidence for value-based healthcare. He recently transitioned to clinical pharmacology, leading machine learning and AI research in early drug development. With over 30 publications, Dr. Huang is active in AMIA, IEEE, and ACM, serving as a reviewer and editor for peer-reviewed journals. He also promotes health equity and responsible AI in healthcare through professional society committees.
