Description of session (include background & scientific importance): Pharmacometrics and Model-informed Drug Development continue to grow in scope as new data collection methodologies and computational and analytical tools are developed. In particular, the implementation of digital health technologies (DHTs) in drug development and diagnostics to gather objective, high-frequency, and real-world data provides MIDD scientists with new opportunities to leverage quantitative methodologies including PKPD, QSP, and AI/ML. While DHTs are typically associated with wearable motion sensors such as smartwatches and smartphones, the FDA definition of DHTs extends to a broader class of computing platforms, connectivity, software, and sensors for health care and related uses.
This session will provide an accessible, introductory-level overview of the current digital health landscape from industry, academic, and nonprofit perspectives, and the opportunities and strategies that exist for leveraging DHT data for MIDD. In addition, we will illustrate how the use of DHTs is beneficial for expanding the scope of quantitative tools, leading to further opportunities for the use of advanced models across a variety of contexts.
